Hey everyone, welcome back to our page! Today’s adventure takes us to Montana where we are hunting mule deer. It’s my first year hunting in Montana, while everyone else is on their second year. This trip is something we all look forward to every year. Escaping the hustle and bustle of the city and finding peace in the countryside is what we live for. Once we pass through Vegas, it’s like our stress levels drop 90%.
We made great time driving through California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, and finally reaching Montana in just one day. We stayed the night in Red Lodge, Montana before heading out to the fields where we would be hunting for the next 7 days. We hit the roads hoping to fill one of our tags on the first day, but hunting in Montana is no walk in the park. The key to hunting here, especially with all the private and public property boundaries, is having the OnX Hunting app. The land is a mix of private and public property, so knowing where you are is crucial. Montana is home to a variety of wildlife, from mule deer and whitetail to antelope, elk, geese, and pheasant. Every turn offers a glimpse of nature’s beauty.
Day 2 came and went without any tags being filled. The following day, we were surrounded by mule deer, but they all seemed to be on private property. I had to settle for shooting them through my camera lens. As the afternoon wore on, we finally got a break. We spotted a buck on public property, Alyssa took the shot, and it was a clean hit. One tag filled, three more to go.
Days 4, 5, and 6 were filled with over 20 miles of hiking, but unfortunately, the deer we spotted were always just out of reach. They seemed to know the boundaries of public property better than we did. As each day passed and the end of the hunting season drew near, our initial disappointment turned into acceptance. We realized that hunting is all about the experience, and we were grateful for the time spent with our friends in Montana. We shared plenty of laughs and enjoyed some delicious meals together. It’s always tough saying goodbye to such wonderful people.
On our last day in Montana, we had a few hours in the morning to give it one final shot, but all we saw were does. Despite that, we were happy to be heading home with some meat. Before leaving, we swung by Bag & Butcher Custom Meats to pick up our processed deer. They not only had amazing pickled quail eggs but also the friendliest family. We all signed their door before hitting the road back to California. The journey home was a bit chilly, with Yellowstone experiencing some low temperatures as a storm rolled in. Nevertheless, we made it back safely. The picturesque countryside of rolling hills and snow-capped mountains quickly gave way to the hustle and bustle of the city as we returned home.
I’m grateful for the time spent with my loved ones, for the laughter shared around the dinner table, and for the opportunity to disconnect from the stresses of modern life and reconnect with nature. So, if you ever find yourself in a similar situation – where the hunt doesn’t go as planned – remember that it’s not always about the kill. It’s about the memories made, the experiences shared, and the bonds strengthened with friends and family. Thanks for joining us on this journey, and we can’t wait to bring you along on our next adventure. Remember to watch our video on YouTube and like, comment, and subscribe for more content like this.
