Garnet Lake – 3 Day Backpacking Trip – July 22-24, 2021

This video showcases our three day backpacking trip to the back country in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. We spent 3 days and 2 nights in the most beautiful country. Our first day we hiked to Garnet Lake from Agnew Meadows via the Shadow Lake trail. It was about 8 miles with about 3000 elevation gain. It was hard and I was totally out of shape. Day 2 we woke up to the most amazing view at Garnet. We did a day hike to Thousand Island Lake, passing Ruby Lake and Emerald Lake. We returned to Garnet for the 2nd night then on the last day we packed up and headed back. We did about 24 miles in total. The trail was hard but totally worth it. We laughed, we cursed and at times we almost cried. It will be a memory that will last forever. I am so happy to have shared it with my family. I couldn’t have asked for a better trip.

Thanks for the cool video! I don’t think that there is a more beautiful place than Ansel Adams Wilderness. We’ve been up to Ediza Lake a few times and day hiked up to Iceberg and Cecile Lakes. It’s a gorgeous place. Two years ago we left Ediza and went over to Garnet and then got smoked out by that huge fire. Luckily I was able to score permits this year to take the High Trail to Thousand Island Lake and will also visit Garnet. Super stoked! Happy trails!

That sounds like an incredible trip—those spots look unreal. Bummer about the smoke, we almost got smoked out when we did Lake Dorothy but glad you’re getting another shot this year. Have an awesome trip and enjoy every minute—happy trails!
